School classes can freely visit the museum as part of their school training and accompanied by a teacher. Group visits by school classes should always be arranged one week before the visit.
From Idea to Reality
The idea of opening a maritime museum in Nakskov goes back about 50 years or more. Establishing the Museum commenced in 1996 with the support of Nakskov Town Council, the Marine Society in Nakskov, organizations, companies and individuals. It was opened to the public in May 1997.
The Museum's Objectives
The aims of the Museum are to show and give visitors interesting information about shipbuilding, ships and shipping with links to the Nakskov area. The Museum also gives an impression of the conditions under which workers, white-collar staff and management previously worked.
The Marine Rooms
Visitors to the Museum are welcome in the Marine . Rooms on the 2nd floor in the tower of the harbour building. The Marine Rooms are run by Nakskov Marine Society, and give visitors the opportunity of enjoying refreshments in an interesting maritime and nava! atmosphere.
Exhibitions
The Museum arranges exhibitions for visitors with an interest in the maritime world. Exhibitions include models, clothes, tools, instruments, curios, pictures, documents and records etc.
Executive Committee
The Museum has an independent executive committee comprising representatives from the Tourist Service (2), the Marine Society (2) and Nakskov Town Council (1).
